There is a common belief that the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) will lead to fewer job vacancies and increased unemployment. This global debate has been ongoing. Recently, Rohit Tandon, a managing director in Deloitte’s AI & Data division, shared his perspective. He stated that while AI will eliminate some jobs, it will also create new roles that we can’t currently predict.
In an interview with PTI, Tandon emphasized that AI will not replace humans entirely. He likened the situation to the advent of IT and computers, which also sparked fears of job loss but ultimately led to job creation. He remarked, “AI will, with people, replace people… It’s not just AI replacing people. You still need humans in the loop.”
Tandon pointed out that many jobs have been created globally due to IT and suggested a similar trend with AI. He said, “Just look at how many more jobs have been created across the globe because of IT. The same thing is going to happen with Artificial Intelligence. It’s going to be all-pervasive.”
He also mentioned that this isn’t the first time technology has replaced some jobs, causing fears of unemployment. He cited examples of automation in various industries and noted that AI will automate simpler tasks, allowing humans to focus on more complex problems. According to Tandon, “AI will start automating easier things that will save time. People in the future will use AI to grow their knowledge and find information rapidly, which will be needed to serve humankind,” as reported by Business Standard.
