Abhishek’s ‘I Want To Talk’ – Critically Acclaimed Yet Box Office Shy
Abhishek Bachchan’s I Want To Talk receives rave reviews but struggles at the box office, earning ₹1.30 crore over its opening weekend.
A Niche Film with Stellar Performances
Abhishek Bachchan’s latest venture, I Want To Talk, directed by Shoojit Sircar, opened in cinemas on November 22 but struggled to make a significant mark at the box office. The film, which has garnered widespread critical acclaim for its quality storytelling and Bachchan’s career-best performance, appears to cater to a niche audience. While its limited appeal was expected, the opening weekend numbers reflect a sluggish start.
The film earned ₹25 lakh on its opening day, followed by ₹55 lakh on Saturday and ₹50 lakh on Sunday, bringing its three-day total to ₹1.30 crore. Despite the positive reviews and word of mouth, the movie’s appeal has remained confined to urban multiplex audiences, largely due to its English-heavy dialogues and unconventional subject matter.
Quiet Promotions and a Targeted Release
The subdued promotional campaign and selective theatrical release strategy also contributed to its modest box office performance. With minimal marketing and a release limited to a smaller number of screens, I Want To Talk was designed more for critical appreciation than mass-market success.
Industry experts predict that the film may perform better on streaming platforms, where its thoughtful storytelling and nuanced performances can reach a wider audience without the constraints of box office expectations.
Competition at the Box Office
Meanwhile, the Diwali blockbusters Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 continue their successful runs, each generating ₹1-2 crore even in their fourth weekend. These crowd-pullers, with mass appeal and larger promotional budgets, have overshadowed smaller films like I Want To Talk.
In contrast, Vikrant Massey’s The Sabarmati Report, now in its second week, is experiencing a gradual surge in viewership. Thanks to positive word of mouth and its tax-free status in some states, it has started matching the numbers of Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. This could signal a promising trajectory if the trend continues.
A Film Worth Watching
Despite its slow box office start, I Want To Talk remains a must-watch for cinema lovers who appreciate thoughtful narratives and outstanding performances. The rave reviews could drive more audiences to theaters in the coming days, potentially giving the film a second wind.
