SRH’s Power Trio of Klaasen, Head, and Abhishek Make IPL History with Record-Breaking Score in 2024 Showdown
In an electrifying showdown between SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, it was a whirlwind of explosive batting that stole the spotlight.
The action kicked off with MI captain Hardik Pandya winning the toss and opting to put SRH into bat. Mayank Aggarwal and Travis Head took charge at the crease, swinging their bats with gusto right from the get-go. They forged a formidable partnership, rattling off 45 runs in just 4 overs until Mayank fell victim to Hardik’s delivery, departing after contributing 11 runs to the tally.
Undeterred by the setback, Abhishek Sharma joined Head in the middle, and the duo unleashed a barrage of boundaries and sixes, piling on 68 runs in just 23 balls. Head’s explosive innings of 62 runs off 24 balls, studded with nine fours and three sixes, dazzled the spectators. SRH notched up their fifty in the 4.4 overs mark, with Head smashing a boundary off Pandya’s bowling.
Aiden Markram then stepped up to partner Abhishek, and the pair continued the onslaught, adding another 48 runs in a mere 19 balls. Abhishek showcased his prowess with a spectacular knock of 63 runs off just 23 balls, embellished with seven maximums and three boundaries. The crowd erupted as SRH crossed the 100-run milestone, propelled by Abhishek’s towering six off leg-spinner Piyush Chawla.
As Abhishek departed, Heinrich Klassen took the baton alongside Markram, and the two stitched together an unbeaten partnership of 116 runs off 55 balls. Klassen’s blistering innings of 80 runs from 34 balls, adorned with seven sixes and four boundaries, added fuel to SRH’s roaring innings. The team surged past the 200-run mark in the 15th over, with Klassen dispatching a massive six off Jasprit Bumrah’s bowling.
MI bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught, with Pandya, Gerald Coetzee, and Chawla managing to claim a wicket each but leaking runs in the process. SRH concluded their innings with a mammoth total of 277/3, setting a new record for the highest score in IPL history.
The stage was set for an epic battle as SRH showcased their batting prowess in full throttle, leaving MI with a monumental chase ahead.
