World’s First Silicon Anode EV Battery Promises 186-Mile Range in Just 5 Minutes
Summary:
ProLogium has unveiled the first 100% silicon anode solid-state EV battery, capable of delivering a 186-mile range after only five minutes of charging. Showcased at the 2024 Paris Motor Show, this battery features significantly higher energy density than current lithium-ion technologies, enabling more compact designs or extended ranges. Modular in design, it simplifies maintenance and reduces replacement costs. ProLogium plans to begin mass production in 2027, in collaboration with FEV Group, paving the way for more efficient and sustainable electric vehicles.
The world’s first fully silicon anode EV battery is scheduled for production in 2027, promising a 186-mile range with just five minutes of charging. Introduced at the 2024 Paris Motor Show by ProLogium, this groundbreaking solid-state battery charges from 5% to 60% in the time it takes for a coffee break, outperforming the standard 30-minute charging period for similar ranges. Offering an energy density of 749 Wh/L volumetric and 321 Wh/kg gravimetric, it far surpasses existing lithium-ion and lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries.
ProLogium anticipates a 77% boost in energy density by late 2024, enabling more compact batteries for efficient designs or extending vehicle ranges with standard-sized packs. Its modular build simplifies repairs, allowing damaged cells to be replaced without discarding the entire battery. Having supplied sample cells for global testing, ProLogium has teamed up with Germany’s FEV Group for mass production, set to begin in 2027.
