Samantha Ruth Prabhu on Conquering Insecurities and Embracing Strength in ‘Citadel’
Samantha Ruth Prabhu discusses overcoming insecurities, finding inner calm, and making bold career choices in her latest role as a fearless spy in Citadel
Samantha Ruth Prabhu, one of the most recognized names in the Telugu film industry since her debut in 2010, is now entering a new, calm chapter in her life. In a recent interview with Indian Express, the actor candidly reflected on her personal and professional growth, revealing how she has gradually overcome self-doubt and insecurities.
Samantha shared that she is now in a position to accept more challenging and powerful roles—something she didn’t feel ready for earlier in her career. “When I first started acting, I wasn’t even sure this was what I wanted to do,” she explained. “I had always planned to focus on my education. It took me several years to find my place in the industry, working through the insecurities and constantly wondering if I was truly good enough.”
Her journey to stardom accelerated with memorable performances, including her recent standout appearance in the song “Oo Antava” from Pushpa and her role in The Family Man Season 2, directed by Raj and DK. Reuniting with the same directors, Samantha now plays a fearless spy agent in Citadel: Honey Bunny. This role, she says, is a direct result of her newfound confidence and clarity.

Overcoming Challenges
In addition to career-related struggles, Samantha has faced significant personal challenges in recent years. She went through a highly publicized divorce from actor Naga Chaitanya, which was followed by the revelation that she had been diagnosed with myositis, an autoimmune condition. Despite these hardships, Samantha emphasized that she now feels more in control of her life. “It’s taken me a long time to get to this point,” she said. “But the last couple of years have been the calmest of my career. I’m finally able to make clear, rational, and creative decisions without the demons in my head getting in the way.”

Growth and Self-Acceptance
Samantha acknowledged that she feels a sense of envy toward actors who seem to have everything figured out from the start of their careers. “I look at actors who are grounded and self-aware early on, and yes, I feel a little jealous,” she admitted with a smile. “They seem to know what they want from day one. It took me a long time to get here, but I’m proud of my journey.”
With her renewed sense of calm and purpose, Samantha is poised to take on more diverse and impactful roles, carving out a unique space for herself in the film industry. Her path, marked by perseverance, introspection, and growth, serves as an inspiration for others facing similar challenges in both their personal and professional lives.
