India Seeks Clarification After US Deports 48 Indian Students Without Explanation

The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has reported that 48 Indian students studying in the United States have been deported back to India over the past three years without any explanation from US authorities. This issue was brought to light by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in Parliament on Friday.
The deportations come amid a growing trend of Indian students migrating abroad for education, with the US being a top destination. The matter was raised in the Lok Sabha by BK Parthasarathi, who inquired about the number of Indian students deported by the US and the reasons behind their deportations.
Kirti Vardhan Singh responded that while the US authorities have not officially shared reasons for these deportations, potential causes could include unauthorized employment, unapproved withdrawal from classes, expulsion and suspension, and failure to report Optional Practical Training (OPT) employment. These issues can lead to the termination of student visas, making their stay illegal.
The Indian government is taking steps to strengthen relations with the US to ensure legal mobility for its citizens. Efforts are also being made to combat illegal migration and educate citizens about safe and legal travel abroad.
