50-Foot ‘King of the Serpents’: Unveiling Vasuki Indicus, Potentially the Largest Snake Ever Discovered

Scientists in India have made a groundbreaking discovery,  what could be the largest snake ever to exist. This colossal serpent, named Vasuki Indices, measures a jaw-dropping 50 feet (15 meters) in length, potentially surpassing the previous record-holder, Titan boa, by around 6.5 feet (2 meters).
The excavation site, located in Gujarat state, yielded 27 fossilized vertebrae dating back approximately 47 million years to the Eocene epoch. Named after the mythical king of serpents in Hinduism, Vasuki Indices likely prowled the ancient landscape as an apex predator.
Researchers employed two methods to estimate the snake’s length, drawing comparisons with modern-day snake species. While uncertainties exist due to the extinct nature of Vasuki’s lineage, the upper range of estimates places it even larger than the renowned Titan boa.
Belonging to the Madtsoiidae family, Vasuki Indices likely inhabited warm climates, with temperatures averaging around 82 degrees Fahrenheit (28 degrees Celsius). Its broad, cylindrical body suggests a terrestrial lifestyle, possibly as an ambush predator relying on constriction to subdue prey.
Despite these revelations, mysteries persist regarding Vasuki’s anatomy, behavior, and diet. Further analysis of the fossils, including examination of carbon and oxygen content, may shed light on these enigmatic aspects of the ancient giant serpent.”
