After the exciting release of “Lookism” back in December 2022, fans in the anime community are eagerly awaiting its second season. This series, based on Park Tae-Joon’s popular webcomic, was turned into an Original Net Animation (ONA) by Studio Mir. The first season was a hit, praised for its unique story and top-notch animation, leaving fans hungry for more.
The heart of the tale follows Daniel Park, aka Park Hyung Suk, as he grapples with bullying and loneliness in school due to his appearance. But things take a wild turn when he discovers he has two bodies – one less attractive and the other incredibly handsome and athletic. This double life allows him to experience how people treat him differently based on his appearance.
The first season covered the initial 27 chapters of the webcomic, which has been running since 2014 on Naver Webtoon and now boasts over 458 chapters. With such a rich source material, there’s plenty of material for more seasons to come.
As for the status of Season 2, there’s been no official word yet from Netflix or Studio Mir about its renewal. This uncertainty has fans on edge, even though the show has been well-received, earning a decent rating of 7.49 out of 10 on MyAnimeList.
Studio Mir, known for its quality work, has the capability to tackle a second season, though they’re not as big as other studios like MAPPA or Studio Pierrot. Fans are crossing their fingers, hoping that Studio Mir and Netflix will give the green light soon.
Looking ahead, Season 2 promises to dive deeper into the characters’ lives, especially exploring the concept of having two bodies in more detail. The first season left off on a cliffhanger involving another character with the same condition as Hyung Suk, hinting at even more mysteries to come.
The new season is expected to start with the Paprika TV arc, picking up from chapter 28 of the webcomic. This storyline opens up new possibilities, including bigger challenges and a deeper look into Hyung Suk’s social struggles with his dual identities. With the rich world that Park Tae-Joon has created, there’s a lot of room for character growth and expanding on the themes of the series.
