North Korea escalates global tension
NATO Secretary General warned that North Korea’s involvement in the Ukraine conflict poses a serious risk to global stability. Kyiv reported that, for the first time, Ukrainian forces struck North Korean soldiers, with an estimated 12,000 North Korean troops allegedly deployed to Russia in support of the Kremlin.
In an opinion piece for Politico, he expressed concerns over Russia and North Korea’s strengthening military and economic alliance, calling it a severe threat not only to Euro-Atlantic and Indo-Pacific security but to global security as a whole. He also cautioned that North Korea’s assistance to Russia would likely extend the conflict, which began with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
NATO’s new leader, Mark Rutte, also urged China to leverage its influence to encourage Russia to end the war, emphasizing the substantial human and military losses endured by both nations. “This dangerous expansion of the conflict intensifies the war and reinforces that our security concerns are global, not just regional,” Rutte remarked.
