Machine Learning and Python: Top Skills for Gen AI Roles in India, Says Study

A recent study reveals that machine learning and Python are among the most sought-after skills for Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) roles in India. According to hiring platform Indeed, 42% of Gen AI job listings in India mention “machine learning,” and 40% require “Python” skills.
Additionally, AI core skills and communication skills are in demand, appearing in 36% and 23% of job ads, respectively. Other valuable skills include natural language processing (20%), TensorFlow (19%), and data science (17%).
India’s AI market is rapidly growing, projected to reach $17 billion by 2027 with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25-35%, as per Nasscom and BCG. Despite this growth, there is a significant skills gap, making it challenging for companies to find qualified professionals.
Indeed’s survey indicates optimism among Indian employers, with over 85% expecting AI to create new jobs within the next one to five years. The company highlights the need for a tech-led skills transformation to lead the AI age.
Indeed operates in over 60 countries and 28 languages, with more than 3 million employers using the platform to find and hire new employees.
