As the demand for GenAI-related jobs surges in India, a study by HRtech platform Indeed reveals that 42% of these roles specifically mention “machine learning,” making it the most sought-after skill. Following closely behind, 40% of job postings emphasize proficiency in “Python,” underscoring its critical role in GenAI applications.
In addition to Python, other essential skills highlighted in the report include: – AI (36%) – Communication skills (23%) – Natural language processing (20%) – TensorFlow (19%) – Data science (17%)
The study also identifies a growing demand for expertise in AWS, deep learning, Java, Azure, image processing, SQL, PyTorch, and Agile methodologies, reflecting the multifaceted requirements of the evolving AI landscape in India.
Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, emphasized the need for skill enhancement among Indian professionals to maintain leadership in global AI discussions. He noted that companies play a crucial role in upskilling their workforce to bridge the skills gap and meet the burgeoning demand for AI talent.
Indeed’s official statement highlights optimism among Indian AI experts, with over 85% expecting AI to generate new job opportunities within the next 1-5 years. The report also cites projections from NASSCOM and BCG, forecasting significant growth in India’s AI market, expected to reach $17 billion by 2027 with a robust compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25% to 35%.
However, despite the promising growth prospects, Indeed warns of a widening skills gap as companies struggle to find qualified professionals capable of managing and implementing advanced AI technologies effectively.
