After wrapping up his time in the military, Jang Ki Yong is making a big comeback to TV screens with the new JTBC drama, The Atypical Family. The drama’s press event, which took place on May 2nd, featured Jang Ki Yong, Chun Woo Hee, Claudia Kim (also known as Kim Soo Hyun), Park So Yi, and director Jo Hyun Tak.
In The Atypical Family, Jang Ki Yong plays Bok Gi Joo, a guy struggling with depression who loses his special power to time travel. But here’s the twist: unlike your typical time-traveling hero, Bok Gi Joo can only revisit happy moments. His life gets a shake-up when he meets Do Da Hae, who brings some major changes and challenges.
Talking about his return to acting, Jang Ki Yong shared his excitement for his first role since his military service. He really dug the unique vibe of the family in the story and the thrill of the script. Playing a dad wasn’t a walk in the park, but he took it on, focusing on being Bok Gi Joo rather than just a dad-like character.
Jang Ki Yong’s prep involved lots of script reading, talks with the director, and tons of rehearsals. Even with the tough bits, he found the whole experience fulfilling, highlighting the teamwork behind the scenes.
