Rumors have been circulating since last week that Sukumar’s highly anticipated action thriller, Pushpa: The Rule, would not meet its originally scheduled release date of August 15. Confirming these speculations, lead actor Allu Arjun has officially announced that the sequel to Pushpa has been delayed and now has a new release date.
New Release Date for Pushpa 2
On Monday evening, Allu Arjun took to his X handle to share a new poster of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The poster features him in his iconic role of Pushpa Raj, wearing a grey t-shirt, a brown shirt over it, and a matching bandana on his head. He holds a sword resting menacingly on his shoulder, staring into the camera with a deadly expression. His caption revealed, “#Pushpa2TheRule in cinemas from December 6th, 2024.”
This announcement comes amid fans’ curiosity about Pushpa 2’s status, especially after several new films announced their release for August 15. Initially, Pushpa 2 was set to clash with Rohit Shetty’s Singham Again and Nikkhil Advani’s Vedaa. Last week, Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and Puri Jagannadh’s Double iSmart were also added to the mix. Subsequently, Jio Studios moved Singham Again to a Diwali release, replacing it with the horror comedy Stree 2 on August 15.
About Pushpa 2
Pushpa 2: The Rule is the direct sequel to Sukumar’s 2021 Telugu blockbuster Pushpa: The Rise. The first part featured Allu Arjun as the anti-hero Pushpa Raj, with Rashmika Mandanna as his love interest, Srivalli. Fahadh Faasil, introduced at the end of the first film, is expected to have a much larger role in the sequel. The original film also included Samantha Ruth Prabhu in the popular dance number Oo Antava Oo Oo Antava.
Pushpa: The Rise depicted power struggles against the backdrop of red sandalwood smuggling. Directed by Sukumar, the film earned Allu Arjun a National Film Award for his performance.
