Discover the exciting updates as Google Meet revolutionizes collaboration by enhancing compatibility with Zoom and Webex, extending its reach to Poly-Android-based devices. While basic features shine, be mindful of some nuances. Dive into the details on how admins can customize settings and end users can effortlessly join meetings, transforming the virtual meeting experience.
Google is making it easier for users to connect and collaborate by improving the compatibility between its video conferencing platform Meet and other popular platforms like Cisco Webex and Zoom. This expanded interoperability now includes Poly-Android-based devices such as Poly Studio X30, X50, X52, and X70.
It’s important to note that while the integration with Webex and Zoom ensures basic video conferencing functions, some advanced features like polls and dual-screen capabilities may not be fully supported when using Poly Meet hardware to join meetings on these platforms.
For users on Google Meet hardware, Zoom and Webex interoperability will be automatically enabled on supported devices. However, administrators have the flexibility to disable this feature at the Organizational Unit (OU) level if necessary. This can be done through the Workspace Admin console by navigating to Devices > Google Meet hardware > Settings > Device Settings > Built-in interoperability.
End users, with permission from their administrators, can seamlessly join Webex or Zoom meetings from their Poly Android-based Google Meet hardware. They can initiate impromptu calls by tapping “Join or start a meeting” on the touch controller and selecting Webex or Zoom from the dropdown options. Alternatively, they can join scheduled calls by adding a room to an event and providing Webex or Zoom meeting details.
The expanded interoperability will be gradually rolled out to Rapid Release and Scheduled Release domains, starting from January 16, 2024. The complete rollout is expected to take up to 15 days for full visibility. This enhanced functionality will be accessible to all Google Workspace customers with Google Meet hardware subscriptions.
