A few months ago, Microsoft introduced a new AI-powered feature for Windows 11 called “Recall,” which automatically takes screenshots of all your activities on your PC, making them searchable. However, the feature was quickly pulled after security researchers discovered that the data was being stored in a plain text SQLite database, raising significant privacy concerns.
Since then, Microsoft has been addressing these issues and testing the Recall feature in Windows 11 Insider Builds. The company assured users that the feature would be optional and that they could choose whether to enable it when setting up their Windows laptops.
Recently, some users noticed what appeared to be an option to uninstall Recall, but Microsoft clarified that this was just a bug. I
Recall was initially slated to launch in June alongside Copilot Plus PCs but was delayed due to the backlash from security experts, prompting Microsoft to make significant changes.
If you’re using the latest Windows 11 Insider Build, you might see an option to disable Recall by going to the Control Panel, navigating to “Programs,” and selecting “Turn Windows features on or off.” However, this option will not be functional due to the aforementioned bug.
