Mars and Saturn on the Rise, Jupiter Chillin’ with Comet 12P
Hey there, skywatchers! April 2024 is gearing up to be quite the celestial spectacle! Apart from the highly anticipated total solar eclipse, there are a bunch of other cosmic events to look forward to.
First off, let’s talk about the big one – the total solar eclipse on April 8. If you’re lucky enough to be in the path stretching from Texas to Maine, get ready for daytime darkness as the Moon completely blocks out the Sun. But even if you’re not in that path, you’ll still get a glimpse of a partial eclipse.
Now, for the early risers among us, keep an eye out for Mars and Saturn putting on a show as they rise together in the east. Around 30 minutes before sunrise is prime viewing time. These two planets will be hanging out quite close to each other, giving us a stunning sight, especially on April 10 and 11.
Later in the evening on April 10, check out the beautiful crescent Moon cozying up to Jupiter. You’ll see Jupiter shining brightly low in the west after sunset throughout the month.
And here’s a little bonus – if you’re quick, you might catch a glimpse of Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks just below and to the right of Jupiter. This comet won’t stick around for long, so get away from those city lights for the best view.
So, mark your calendars and keep your eyes to the skies, because April is packed with celestial wonders you won’t want to miss!
