On September 26, Netflix is set to unveil a gripping new chapter in the Bangkok Breaking universe with Bangkok Breaking: Heaven and Hell. This highly anticipated spin-off promises to thrust viewers into the chaotic life of Wanchai, an ordinary man navigating extraordinary circumstances in a city on the brink.
The recently released trailer offers a tense glimpse into a world where survival is uncertain, and every moment is fraught with danger. Riot scenes, social upheaval, and a relentless fight for life dominate the screen, painting a vivid picture of a man’s transformation into a modern-day hero.
A Director’s Vision for Realism
Behind the intense action and gripping drama is director Kome-Kongkiat Komesiri, known for his work on the Khun Pan trilogy. His vision for Heaven and Hell is nothing short of breathtaking. “Our intention was to make viewers feel like they’re short of breath,” Kome reveals. “It’s a non-stop action movie where Wanchai faces one crisis after another, and viewers won’t know what to expect next.”
Kome’s commitment to realism is evident in the painstaking detail put into the film’s production. The Ruamjai Housing Community, a central location in the movie, was meticulously constructed to resemble a living, breathing city. This backdrop provided the perfect setting for many of the film’s intense chase scenes, immersing the audience in the chaotic energy of Bangkok.
One of the film’s standout moments is a riot sequence, filmed with a 360-degree perspective. The scene is a masterclass in practical effects, featuring explosions, fire trucks, and actors set ablaze in a thrilling display of cinematic craftsmanship. Kome’s dedication to using real, tangible elements instead of relying on CGI has paid off, resulting in a visceral, heart-pounding experience for viewers.
Unforgettable Action and Authenticity
Kome’s favorite scene to film was a high-octane one-shot chase sequence on a bustling Bangkok road. “When we finished filming and reviewed the footage, everyone applauded and agreed it was worth it,” Kome recalls. This scene, like much of the film, was shot without CGI, using drones to capture the frenetic energy of the city streets. The result is an action sequence that feels raw, authentic, and utterly absorbing.
Another highlight for the director was the slum set, a fully realized environment built from the ground up. “We built up an entire city without using any CG,” Kome explains. “Everything was set up in a way that felt real, and you can see it in the final result.”
This dedication to authenticity extended beyond the sets and into the performances. The cast, led by Weir-Sukollawat Kanaros as Wanchai, spent significant time together early in the shoot to build the camaraderie necessary for such a demanding film. “Early in the shooting, we shot 25 sequences in an ambulance, which accounted for only 25 minutes of the film,” Weir shares. “This really got everyone on the same page and ready for the rest of the filming.”
A Talented Ensemble
Joining Weir is an ensemble cast that brings depth and dimension to the film’s intense narrative. The cast includes Mind 4EVE, Doo-Sanya Kunakorn, UK-Natthaya Ongsritragul, Day Thaitanium, Mamio-Sutipat Sutiwanit, and Fluke-Teerapat Lohananand. Together, they bring Kome’s vision to life, creating a story that is as emotionally resonant as it is thrilling.
As Bangkok Breaking: Heaven and Hell prepares to premiere on September 26, the anticipation is palpable. This survival thriller promises to be a rollercoaster ride, filled with unexpected twists, heart-stopping action, and a hero’s journey that will resonate long after the credits roll.
Mark your calendars and prepare for an adrenaline-fueled experience like no other, exclusively on Netflix.
