AWS Ignites Mexico’s Tech Revolution: Faster, Smarter, and $5 Billion Stronger

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud division of Amazon, has exciting plans to introduce an AWS infrastructure Region in Mexico by early 2025. The future AWS Mexico (Central) Region is crafted to empower users, allowing them to smoothly run their tasks and securely store data within Mexico, ensuring quicker access for end users.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS, expressed enthusiasm about witnessing the innovation and growth of thousands of customers across various industries in Mexico. This investment signifies AWS’s commitment to supporting customers in leveraging advanced technologies like artificial intelligence and machine learning. The goal is to assist Mexican customers in meeting data residency preferences and delivering cloud-based applications with minimal latency, thereby accelerating the country’s digital transformation and contributing to economic growth.
This announcement aligns with AWS’s sustained dedication to meeting the rising demand for cloud services in Latin America. The company is planning to invest over $5 billion (approximately MXN $85 billion) in Mexico over a span of 15 years.
The AWS Mexico (Central) Region, set to launch with three Availability Zones (AZs), will join the existing 105 AZs across 33 global regions. These strategically placed Availability Zones are designed to ensure business continuity by being sufficiently distant from each other while offering low-latency connectivity for high-availability applications utilizing multiple AZs. Every zone comes with its own power, cooling, and physical security setup, all connected through reliable, super-fast networks with minimal delays.
Highlighting the importance of cloud services in Mexico’s digital and economic transformation, Raquel Buenrostro, Mexican Secretary of Economy, welcomes AWS’s investment and expansion in the country. This move is seen as a positive signal of trust, indicating favorable conditions for supporting the trend of nearshoring across various sectors of the Mexican economy. Moreover, Buenrostro values AWS’s commitment to training students, along with supporting small to medium-sized enterprises and digital entrepreneurs in Mexico on a considerable scale.
