Vast's Haven-1

Vast’s Haven-1 Space Station to Ride SpaceX Starlink’s Connectivity Wave

Vast’s Haven-1, set to be the pioneer commercial space station globally, will be linked up with the SpaceX Starlink satellite network, as per the recent declaration from the company on Tuesday.
This Starlink laser setup promises lightning-fast Gigabit/s speeds and minimal delays in connectivity, catering not only to the crew members but also to internal equipment like payload racks, external cameras, and instruments, as detailed in the announcement.
Max Haot, CEO of Vast, expressed his confidence in SpaceX Starlink as the go-to solution for ensuring high-speed, low-latency internet access for a space station in orbit by 2025. He highlighted their anticipation of SpaceX’s continual technological advancements, which drove them to eagerly embrace the opportunity to collaborate on deploying laser connectivity for a space station.
Once Haven-1 is up and running, crew members will have the luxury of tapping into the Starlink network, empowering them to link up their personal gadgets to Wi-Fi, thus elevating their internet experience while journeying through orbit. This enhanced connectivity opens doors for conducting scientific inquiries, carrying out experiments, and engaging in outreach activities such as video calls with improved and uninterrupted internet access.
Back in May 2023, Vast unveiled its plans for Haven-1, which involved SpaceX spearheading its launch, followed by two human spaceflight missions bound for the space station. The target is to launch Haven-1 atop a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket into low-Earth orbit, with a tentative date set no sooner than August 2025. Initially operating autonomously, Haven-1 will later integrate as a module into a larger Vast space station currently in the works.
The collaboration between Vast and SpaceX extends beyond Haven-1, encompassing future Vast platforms, including their proposal for NASA’s Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destinations (CLDs) competition. This alignment of visions paves the way for seamless Starlink connectivity across various Vast projects in the pipeline.
Stephanie Bednarek, SpaceX’s Senior Director of Commercial Sales, expressed excitement about Haven-1 marking the maiden voyage of a commercial space station interconnected with Starlink.
The announcement of Haven-1 being the inaugural commercial space station linked with SpaceX Starlink was met with anticipation and enthusiasm, symbolizing a significant leap in the realm of space exploration and connectivity.
