Saif Ali Khan Stabbing Case Turns Political: Father of Accused to Raise Arrest Issue in Bangladesh Elections
The case of Shariful Fakir, accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan, has taken a political turn with his father, Md Rohul Amin, planning to use his son’s arrest as an issue in the upcoming Bangladesh elections. Amin, a BNP vice-president, claims his son was wrongly framed by Mumbai Police due to his illegal immigration and facial similarities with the real suspect. He intends to challenge the arrest and highlight the mistreatment of Bangladeshis in India, seeking support from BNP leaders and raising the issue with Indian and Bangladeshi authorities.
The arrest of Shariful Fakir, a Bangladeshi immigrant accused of stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan, has taken a political turn as his father, Md Rohul Amin, vowed to make his son’s arrest a key issue in the upcoming Bangladesh elections. Amin, a vice-president of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), maintains that his son is innocent and that the arrest was a case of mistaken identity.
Amin claims that the Mumbai Police falsely framed his son because of his similarities to the suspect and his illegal entry into India in April 2024. He also rejects the police’s assertion that Shariful’s fingerprints matched those found at the crime scene and disputes the CCTV evidence.
Amin, 55, said he plans to challenge his son’s arrest in the rural local body elections and will raise the issue of how Bangladeshis are treated by Indian authorities. He also criticized the political turmoil in Bangladesh under the Awami League regime, which forced his son to flee the country. Amin intends to seek support from senior BNP leaders and approach both the Indian High Commission and Bangladesh’s Ministry of External Affairs.
Amin emphasized that his son is not a criminal and was only seeking a better life, not committing any crime. He argues that Shariful has been made a scapegoat due to political tensions between Bangladesh and India.
