Prateek Arora, who moved to Mumbai from Delhi over a decade ago, has used AI to offer a fresh perspective on the city’s skyline. His “Surreal Estate” series features futuristic elements like spaceship apartments floating above Mumbai, evoking a Jetsons-like ambiance.
Arora began exploring AI art with Midjourney in 2022, before the tool gained widespread popularity. “When an artist discovers a new medium, the first instinct is to reimagine the surrounding environment,” he says. His AI-generated works, including monsoon robot raincoats, have captivated audiences, making viewers feel as though they’re experiencing Mumbai like Tony Stark.
Despite facing online criticism, Arora remains focused on engaging with those genuinely curious about AI’s future. He exhibits his AI creations at prominent events, such as the Mumbai Art Fair, and acknowledges the rapid advancements in AI art. “Although there is still much to achieve, the progress we’ve seen in AI art is remarkable,” he notes.
Arora views AI as an evolution rather than an end to traditional art forms. “Just as cinema evolved from black-and-white to color and from silent films to talkies, AI represents progress rather than obsolescence,” he explains. He anticipates that AI-powered videos will revolutionize genres like sci-fi and horror, offering new visual experiences on cinema screens.
