Microsoft Enhances Windows with New Feature to Compete with Apple’s Ecosystem

Microsoft continues to narrow the gap between Windows and Android by enhancing their integration, similar to how Apple’s iPhones and Macs work together. The updated Nearby Share feature is a significant step towards seamless connectivity between Windows PCs and Android smartphones.

Nearby Share Update

Extended Functionality : Previously limited to Windows devices, the Nearby Share feature on Windows 11 now allows file transfers between PCs and Android phones.
New Share Menu : When an Android device is connected to a Windows PC via the Phone Link app, the Nearby Share feature will present a dedicated share menu for direct file sharing between the two devices.
Comparison : Although similar to Google’s Quick Share, Microsoft’s Nearby Share on Windows is not yet integrated with it. However, Google and Samsung have already implemented features to enhance cross-device sharing within the Android ecosystem.

Rollout and Availability

Testing Phase : Microsoft is currently testing the updated Nearby Share in the Preview Channel, with a stable release expected in the coming months.
Early Access : To try it out now, users can install the Preview build on their Windows 11 PC and connect their Android phone via Phone Link.
