To mark the first anniversary of India’s historic Moon landing, ISRO has made the scientific data from the Chandrayaan-3 mission available to researchers worldwide. This release includes over 55 gigabytes of data collected by five payloads—three on the Vikram lander and two on the Pragyan rover—during the mission’s successful soft landing 23 august 2023.
ISRO Chairman S. Somanath emphasized that this data is accessible to all researchers globally, not just those involved in the mission, to advance scientific understanding. The data sets can be accessed through the PRADAN portal of the Indian Space Science Data Centre (ISSDC) at www.pradan.issdc.gov.in. The Pragyan rover’s in-situ chemical analyses of the lunar surface have provided valuable insights into the Moon’s origin and evolution, supporting the Lunar Magma Ocean Hypothesis.
President Droupadi Murmu praised the contributions of ISRO’s scientists in her National Space Day speech, highlighting their achievements and the impact on India’s social and economic development.
