Eight Cars Elon Musk Has Owned That Aren’t Teslas: From Million-Dollar Rides to a Car in Space

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, owner of X (formerly Twitter), Neuralink, and The Boring Company, has a diverse car collection that includes vehicles beyond his own Tesla models. Here are eight notable ones:
1. 1978 BMW 320i
Musk’s first car, bought used in 1994, was a BMW E21 320i, the inaugural model of BMW’s 3 Series. It featured a 2.0-liter inline-four engine with 110 hp. One of the wheels fell off while an intern was driving it, leading to its sale.
2. 2012 Porsche 911 Turbo
Musk’s admiration for the Porsche 911 led him to Tesla. He had approached engineer Alan Cocconi to install lithium-ion batteries in a 911. Cocconi declined but mentioned Tesla, and the rest is history. Musk owned a 997 era 911 Turbo.
3. 1967 Jaguar E-Type Roadster

4. 1997 McLaren F1

5. 1976 Lotus Esprit
Purchased in 2013, this is the actual Bond car from “The Spy Who Loved Me,” capable of transforming into a submarine in the movie.
6. 1920 Ford Model T
Description The world’s first mass-produced car, symbolizing innovation and disruption. Musk mentioned it briefly in a tweet; it was a gift from a friend.
7.2010 Audi Q7
Musk criticized its rear seat accessibility, which inspired Tesla’s Falcon wing doors. He no longer owns it.
8. 2006 BMW M5 by Hamann Motorsport
Description**: This M5, modified by Hamann Motorsport, had a 5.0-liter V10 engine boosted to 600 hp and over 200 mph. It inspired Tesla’s “Ludicrous Mode.”
 The Teslas
