Get ready to dive back into the epic sci-fi universe crafted by director Denis Villeneuve, as the film is set to hit streaming on Max starting May 21, according to Variety. The blockbuster sequel has already made waves, crossing the impressive $500 million mark at the global box office back in March, outshining its predecessor, ‘Dune: Part One.’ Its debut weekend in the U.S. alone raked in a hefty $81.5 million, with an additional $97 million internationally.

Adapted from the latter half of Frank Herbert’s 1965 sci-fi masterpiece, “Dune: Part Two” continues the journey of Timothee Chalamet’s Paul Atreides as he allies with the Fremen to combat the oppressive Harkonnen empire, avenging his father’s death. Joining the stellar original cast including Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stellan Skarsgard are new faces like Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Christopher Walken, and Lea Seydoux.

The previous installment, ‘Dune: Part One,’ made a significant mark in the film industry, earning ten Academy Award nominations and clinching victories for its outstanding original music, sound, film editing, cinematography, production design, and visual effects, alongside its impressive $400 million global box office haul.

While a third installment in the ‘Dune’ series hasn’t been officially greenlit by Warner Bros., Villeneuve has hinted at the possibility, indicating that he’ll only pursue the project based on Herbert’s “Dune Messiah” novel if he’s confident it’ll surpass the excellence of “Dune: Part Two,” as per Variety’s report.
