BSNL Expands Subscriber Base and Prepares for 5G with Homegrown 4G Network

Great news for BSNL subscribers: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia announced that BSNL’s subscriber base is growing, and a homegrown 4G network is ready, with plans to upgrade to 5G.
Under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, an indigenous 4G network will soon be available nationwide through BSNL. Scindia emphasized that the government resolved to develop its own technology without relying on foreign equipment, achieving this in one and a half years. India is now the fifth country with its own 4G stack, core system, and radiation access network (RAN).
Indian companies, including Tejas Network, C-DOT, and TCS, are collaborating with BSNL to implement this technology. Scindia confirmed the installation of 80,000 towers by October and the remaining 21,000 by March next year, aiming for 100,000 towers by March 2025. This will enable faster downloads and better TV streaming.
The transition from 4G to 5G is also in progress, requiring modifications to existing towers. Scindia noted that many telecom customers are switching to BSNL from private providers, with assurances of prompt service.
The minister also visited Gwalior and offered prayers at a temple in Morena.
