AWS is set to pour over $5.3 billion into Saudi Arabia, unveiling plans for the creation of a new infrastructure Region
Amazon Web Services (AWS) has exciting news for Saudi Arabia as it plans to launch a fresh infrastructure Region in the country by 2026. This move aims to empower customers to run their operations and securely store data within the nation, promising faster service for end-users. AWS is dedicating an investment of over $5.3 billion (around 19.88 billion SAR) in Saudi Arabia for this venture.
The upcoming AWS Region in Saudi Arabia will consist of three Availability Zones (AZs) at its launch, joining the existing 105 AZs spread across 33 global regions. Each Availability Zone will have its independent power, cooling, and physical security, all interconnected through reliable, high-speed networks.
Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS, shared his enthusiasm, stating that the new AWS Region will empower organizations to leverage the full potential of cloud computing. With services like compute, storage, databases, analytics, and artificial intelligence, businesses and institutions can transform how they serve customers. AWS aims to support Saudi Arabian institutions, startups, and enterprises in delivering cloud-powered applications, fostering growth, productivity, innovation, and job creation.
In addition to this, AWS is collaborating with Skillsoft Global Knowledge to introduce the “AWS Saudi Arabia Women’s Skills Initiative.” This upskilling program aims to help women kickstart a career in cloud computing by providing free training to approximately 4,000 women on AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials. The training sessions will be conducted in classrooms with AWS-certified professionals.
AWS is not only investing financially but also committing to upskilling local talent, including students, developers, technical and non-technical professionals, and future IT leaders. They plan to achieve this through initiatives like AWS Academy, AWS Educate, AWS re/Start, and AWS Skill Builder.
Furthermore, AWS will set up two new innovation centers and extend technical mentorship and training on AWS technologies, such as AI and ML, to startups in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. This holistic approach demonstrates AWS’s dedication to fostering technological growth and education in Saudi Arabia.
