Seven privately-held Indian startups have been selected for a groundbreaking Indo-US collaboration focused on space and defense, potentially opening up a significant market for these companies. According to a Reuters report, these seven startups were chosen for a pioneering India-US space and defense program.

Launched in September 2024 by Indian investor Indusbridge Ventures and US-based FedTech, the initiative aims to connect the startups with US defense agencies and industry leaders. Among the selected companies are space imaging firm KaleidEO, rocket manufacturer EtherealX, and AI-driven company Shyam VNL. These companies will participate in a program dedicated to defense and dual-use technologies, exploring opportunities for collaboration with entities such as the US Defense Innovation Unit, the Department of Defense, and other government bodies on satellite observation and advanced defense technologies.

Rahul Devjani, Managing Partner at Indusbridge Ventures, highlighted the program’s value in providing resources, mentorship, and connections with US industry leaders. “We look forward to partnering with FedTech to accelerate private-sector collaboration between the two nations in strategic sectors—defense and dual-use technologies,” he said.

Sources close to the startups, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, told Reuters that the program offers access to the world’s largest defense and space market, with potential collaborations with major US defense contractors such as Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin, and RTX. This access is expected to provide a competitive edge in securing US contracts in their respective niches, with an estimated market worth of $1.5 billion annually. One source estimated that this access could generate annual revenues between $500 million and $1 billion for the Indian companies.

This development follows a recent meeting in New Delhi between Indian National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his US counterpart Jake Sullivan, where they discussed space technology collaboration and enhanced cooperation between the US Defense Innovation Unit and India’s Innovations for Defense Excellence.
