SpaceX is getting ready to send 20 Starlink satellites, including 13 equipped with Direct to Cell capabilities, into low-Earth orbit. The launch is set for Tuesday, May 14, from Space Launch Complex 4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. It’s scheduled to take off at 9:29 a.m. PT, with more launch opportunities available until 1:29 p.m. PT that same day, and additional chances on Wednesday, May 15, starting at 9:06 a.m. PT.
For those not familiar, Starlink, the largest satellite constellation in low Earth orbit, provides high-speed internet globally with minimal delay. Its positioning in low-Earth orbit ensures fast connections, a significant improvement over traditional satellite internet. Satellites equipped with Direct to Cell capabilities allow for texting, calling, and browsing from anywhere, be it on land or water.
This mission is the 18th flight for the Falcon 9 first stage booster, which has a notable history, having supported various missions including Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich, DART, Transporter-7, and multiple Starlink deployments. After separating from the second stage, the first stage will return to Earth, landing on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship in the Pacific Ocean.
For those eager to witness this event, SpaceX will livestream the launch on X@SpaceX.
