Razzie Awards 2025: Celebrating Hollywood’s Most Disastrous Films

The 45th Razzie Awards spotlights Hollywood’s worst films and performances, featuring nominees like Joker: Folie à Deux, Madame Web, and Megalopolis. Discover the full list of contenders.

Hollywood’s Hall of Shame: The Razzie Awards Return

While the Academy Awards prepare to honor cinema’s finest, the Golden Raspberry Awards—better known as the Razzies—have already unveiled their contenders for the year’s most questionable cinematic achievements. The 45th edition of this tongue-in-cheek ceremony highlights films and performances that failed to impress audiences and critics alike, with nominees spanning big-budget blockbusters, auteur-driven misfires, and surprising industry missteps.
Among this year’s nominees for Worst Picture are Borderlands, Joker: Folie à Deux, Madame Web, Megalopolis, and Reagan, a biopic that aimed to honor the former U.S. president but instead landed among the year’s most panned releases. These films, despite their star power and high expectations, struggled to resonate, earning them a place in the Razzie spotlight.

A-List Misfires: The Year’s Most Disappointing Performances

Even Hollywood’s biggest names weren’t spared from Razzie scrutiny. In the Worst Actor category, Joaquin Phoenix (Joker: Folie à Deux), Dennis Quaid (Reagan), and Jerry Seinfeld (Unfrosted) top the list, proving that even Oscar-winning actors can stumble. Joining them are Jack Black (Dear Santa) and Zachary Levi (Harold and the Purple Crayon), whose performances left much to be desired.
On the Worst Actress front, Cate Blanchett (Borderlands), Lady Gaga (Joker: Folie à Deux), and Dakota Johnson (Madame Web) headline the nominations. Their participation in these critically panned films may not have been enough to salvage the productions, leading them to an unfortunate Razzie nod. Rounding out the category are Bryce Dallas Howard (Argylle) and Jennifer Lopez (Atlas), both of whom faced criticism for their roles.

Supporting Cast Disasters and Directorial Downfalls

Not even supporting performances were safe from Razzie ridicule. Among the Worst Supporting Actor nominees are Jack Black (voice-only in Borderlands), Kevin Hart (Borderlands), Shia LaBeouf (Megalopolis), Tahar Rahim (Madame Web), and Jon Voight (Megalopolis, Reagan, Shadow Land & Strangers). Their performances, whether due to misguided direction or questionable casting, have earned them a spot in this year’s Razzie race.
Meanwhile, the Worst Supporting Actress category features Ariana DeBose (Argylle, Kraven the Hunter), Leslie Anne Down (portraying Margaret Thatcher in Reagan), Emma Roberts (Madame Web), Amy Schumer (Unfrosted), and FKA twigs (The Crow). These performances, some of which were part of highly anticipated projects, failed to impress critics and audiences.
As for the directors behind these troubled productions, nominees for Worst Director include S.J. Clarkson (Madame Web), Francis Ford Coppola (Megalopolis), Todd Phillips (Joker: Folie à Deux), Eli Roth (Borderlands), and Jerry Seinfeld (Unfrosted). While some directors have storied careers, their latest films struggled to deliver compelling narratives or satisfying execution.

When Chemistry Fizzles: Worst On-Screen Duos and Unwanted Sequels

One of the Razzies’ most infamous categories, Worst Screen Combo, features pairings that critics deemed the least convincing. This year’s contenders include:
  • Any two obnoxious characters (especially Jack Black) in Borderlands
  • Any two unfunny “comedic actors” in Unfrosted
  • The entire cast of Megalopolis
  • Joaquin Phoenix & Lady Gaga in Joker: Folie à Deux
  • Dennis Quaid & Penelope Ann Miller as “Ronnie and Nancy” in Reagan
Meanwhile, the Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel category includes The Crow, Joker: Folie à Deux, Kraven the Hunter, Mufasa: The Lion King, and Rebel Moon 2: The Scargiver. These films, often bankrolled on nostalgia or franchise expansions, failed to recapture the magic of their predecessors.
Finally, in the Worst Screenplay category, contenders include Joker: Folie à Deux, Kraven the Hunter, Madame Web, Megalopolis, and Reagan. With convoluted plots, cringeworthy dialogue, and narratives that failed to engage, these scripts are now competing for the title of worst-written film of the year.

What’s Next for Hollywood’s “Worst”?

The winners (or losers, depending on perspective) of the 45th Razzie Awards will be revealed on March 1, just one day before the Academy Awards celebrate the best in film. While no actor or filmmaker aspires to take home a Golden Raspberry, the Razzies remain a lighthearted way to acknowledge cinematic misfires.
For audiences, these nominations serve as a reminder that even the biggest stars and studios can produce films that miss the mark. As Hollywood gears up for another year of filmmaking, let’s hope the industry takes note—and that next year’s nominees have a little less star power and a lot more quality storytelling.
