The Pentagon emphasized India’s strategic importance as a key ally, affirming its commitment to further developing the partnership between the two countries. Pat Ryder, the Pentagon’s Press Secretary, made these remarks during a press conference in Washington, responding to inquiries regarding Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Russia and the military relations between India and the US.
“India is a strategic partner, and we look forward to continuing to strengthen that partnership,” Ryder stated in response to questions posed by reporters.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Ryder emphasized the US position on Ukraine’s sovereignty and the need for Ukraine to decide its path towards peace. He underscored ongoing US support for Ukraine in defending its territory and sovereignty against Russia’s illegal occupation.
Earlier, US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, highlighted the enduring friendship between India and the US, describing it as genuine and based on mutual trust. Garcetti emphasized collaboration across various sectors such as technology, defense, and space, underscoring the importance of maintaining and nurturing this relationship.
“We view India as a partner where we collaborate in fields like ship repairs, employment opportunities, and mutual understanding of systems and training. This relationship is akin to a marriage that requires continuous effort,” Garcetti remarked.
