Indian Army Inducts 480 Indigenous Loitering Munitions for Precision Strikes


The Indian Army has acquired 480 Nagastra-1 loitering munitions, India’s first indigenous system with over 75% locally sourced content, developed by Nagpur-based Solar Industries. The lightweight, portable munitions are designed for precision strikes. Solar Industries is also developing advanced versions (Nagastra-2 and Nagastra-3) and has proposed creating MALE drones to support India’s self-reliant defense goals under the IDDM initiative.


The Indian Army has introduced 480 **Nagastra-1** loitering munitions, designed and developed by Nagpur-based Solar Industries.With over 75% indigenous content, Nagastra-1 marks a significant step toward self-reliance in defense manufacturing. Designed for precision strikes, this lightweight and portable system was procured under emergency powers to enhance battlefield capabilities.

Solar Industries is now developing advanced versions, **Nagastra-2** and **Nagastra-3**, which will feature extended range and greater payload capacity. The company has also proposed creating Medium Altitude Long Endurance (MALE) drones, in line with the Ministry of Defence’s push for Indigenously Designed, Developed, and Manufactured (IDDM) systems to strengthen India’s defense technology base.

This achievement underscores India’s growing focus on indigenous weapon systems and advanced military innovation.
