Elon Musk has announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Tesla and x AI are hiring network engineers and technicians. “Both @Tesla and @xAI are looking to hire networking engineers & technicians,” he posted.
Although these roles are technical and engineering-focused, Musk has previously expressed his reservations about hiring MBAs, suggesting they often lose sight of their goals by becoming too focused on numbers and spreadsheets.
Tesla, headquartered in Austin, Texas, is one of the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturers. Musk, the richest person in the world with a net worth of $252 billion, is the CEO of Tesla and the founder and CEO of San Francisco-based x AI. He also owns X, which he purchased for $44 billion in October 2022 when it was known as Twitter, renaming it to X in 2023.
The startup aims to create an AI capable of advanced mathematical reasoning, which is not seen in current models. In May, x AI secured $6 billion in Series B funding from investors such as Valor Equity Partners, Vy Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, Fidelity Management & Research Company, Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal, Kingdom Holding, and others.
x AI has also introduced Grok, a generative AI chatbot, as a competitor to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Musk, who co-founded OpenAI, left in 2018 citing potential conflicts of interest due to Tesla’s development of AI for self-driving cars. However, Sam Altman, the current CEO of OpenAI, stated that Musk’s departure was due to a failed proposal to take over OpenAI fully.
