AR Rahman to Light Up Malaysia with Concert, Unveils New Documentary at Cannes
AR Rahman announces a spectacular concert in Malaysia on July 27, 2024, and unveils his documentary “Headhunting to Beatboxing” at the Cannes Film Festival.
Music maestro AR Rahman is set to captivate Malaysian fans with a spectacular concert at the iconic National Stadium Bukit Jalil on July 27, 2024, as announced by BookMyShow.
Organized by Malaysia’s leading entertainment company, Star Planet, the concert promises to be a major highlight for music lovers. Recently, Rahman made headlines at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where he unveiled the first look and teaser of his latest project, a feature documentary titled “Headhunting to Beatboxing.”
Directed by Rohit Gupta and produced by Rahman, “Headhunting to Beatboxing” explores the fascinating journey of rhythm and sound, tracing the evolution of music across different cultures, tribes, and eras. Rahman expressed his passion for the project, stating, “Music has this transformative power to change society and to connect and bring relevance to existence. ‘Headhunting to Beatboxing’ celebrates the universal rhythm that connects people through diverse musical expressions. We look forward to the start of its film festival journey, and what better place than Cannes, which celebrates cinema, to make the first announcement on the film.”
The documentary promises an immersive exploration from ancient headhunting traditions to modern musical movements, offering viewers a unique musical and anthropological experience. The launch event at the Bharat Pavilion in Cannes saw the presence of AR Rahman, director Rohit Gupta, and executive producers Abu Metha (Advisor to the Chief Minister, Government of Nagaland) and Theja Meru (Chairman, TaFMA, Government of Nagaland), among other distinguished guests.
Reflecting on the film’s origins, Abu Metha shared, “The idea was born when AR Rahman visited Nagaland for the legendary Hornbill Festival. We knew we had to be part of it. The film is a collaboration of many creative minds, particularly the TaFMA, and is masterfully captured by Rohit Gupta. The real heroes are the musicians of Nagaland, whose stories and music transcend time and reflect the aspirations of our youth.”
Director Rohit Gupta added, “The five-year journey of making this film has been transformative for me. The rich and vibrant music today, overcoming the scars of the past, truly amazed me during the making. I am excited for audiences to experience the magic that exists in the music of Nagaland.”
This documentary is Rahman’s second significant project as a producer, following his previous film “99 Songs.” The executive producers include Abu Metha, and Rohhit Daas, Theja Meru, Rohit Gupta, Sheila Houlahan, and Adam J. Greig.
