Apple’s iPhone 17 Series to Introduce High-Refresh LTPO Displays for All Models

Apple’s iPhone 17 series, set for next year’s release, may feature 120Hz LTPO displays across all models, marking a significant shift from its Pro-only display tech. Discover what this means for users.

Anticipated iPhone 17 Lineup to Redefine Display Standards

Apple enthusiasts can anticipate a significant leap in display technology with the iPhone 17 lineup, set for release in the latter half of next year. Industry insights reported by South Korean outlet ETNews suggest that Apple will implement LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) display technology across all models in the series. This strategic move marks a departure from Apple’s current approach, where only Pro models feature high-refresh screens.

Democratizing High-Refresh Displays

Currently, Apple’s signature ProMotion technology, which boasts a 120Hz refresh rate for ultra-smooth scrolling, seamless animations, and improved gaming, is exclusive to the Pro models. The standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, on the other hand, are limited to 60Hz, which constrains display responsiveness. Integrating LTPO screens across the entire iPhone 17 lineup would extend these advanced display benefits, leveling the playing field for all users.

The Benefits of LTPO Technology

Sourced from tech giants Samsung and LG, LTPO displays bring more than just higher refresh rates—they are also energy-efficient, helping conserve battery life. This efficiency promises to enrich activities like gaming, streaming, and daily browsing, giving the non-Pro iPhone 17 models a competitive edge. Display Supply Chain Consultants’ Ross Young has previously hinted at Apple’s 2025 lineup standardizing 120Hz ProMotion displays, aligning well with these current reports.

New Models and Enhanced Specs

The iPhone 17 series is rumored to debut a new model dubbed “Air,” replacing the Plus version as a lighter, more streamlined option in the lineup. Pro versions are expected to come equipped with Apple’s next-gen A19 Pro chip and 12GB of RAM, while the iPhone 17 and 17 Air are projected to support A18 and A19 chips with 8GB of RAM. Furthermore, all models could sport 24-megapixel front-facing cameras, significantly boosting video call and selfie quality.

A New Benchmark in Smartphone Displays

If the forecasts prove accurate, Apple’s iPhone 17 series could set a new benchmark for smartphone display technology, making high-refresh LTPO screens the norm rather than an exclusive feature. This advancement would not only improve visual performance but also optimize battery usage, offering a more balanced and enhanced user experience.
