WhatsApp to Introduce New Default Theme Feature: How It Works

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will allow users to select a default theme for the app, independent of the phone’s settings. Currently, WhatsApp’s theme matches the phone’s default theme—dark when the phone is set to dark mode and light when set to light mode. The new feature will enable users to customize the theme of WhatsApp separately from their device settings.

Beta Testing and Availability

According to WABetaInfo, this feature is being tested in WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.18.6. While the exact public release date is not disclosed, users in the beta version can already find this option in the settings menu.

New Custom Themes

WhatsApp is expected to introduce two new themes that will replace the current green-colored look. In light mode, the app may change from green to black, offering a modern appearance, while the dark mode could turn the app’s green elements to white, creating a striking contrast.

Customization Options for iPhones

WhatsApp is also reportedly developing new themes for iPhone users, allowing them to choose chat wallpapers and chat bubble colors from options like white, pink, green, purple, and blue. Additionally, the app might soon let users customize accent colors for app buttons, enhancing personalization.

Expected Launch

These customization features have not been publicly launched but are available in the beta version, hinting at an upcoming release. WhatsApp aims to make the app more personalized and user-friendly with these updates.
