Following the global acclaim of its debut season, the hit K-drama “All of Us Are Dead,” centered on a harrowing zombie apocalypse, is eagerly poised for a second season.
The show, celebrated for its compelling plot and rich character development, left audiences craving more after a suspense-filled finale in Season 1, sparking widespread anticipation for what’s next.
In a comprehensive interview with The Korea Herald, Director Lee Jae-kyoo shared insights into his meticulous crafting of the first season, aimed explicitly at paving the way for a sequel.
Lee revealed, “We meticulously set up various scenes and introduced new types of zombies in the first season, all designed to broaden our narrative into Season 2.” He referred particularly to the hybrid zombies introduced later in the series, adding, “While the first season focused on human survival, the upcoming season will delve into the dynamics of survival among these evolved zombies.”
Expectations for Season 2
The upcoming season of “All of Us Are Dead” is set to amplify the zombie terror, transitioning from the closed corridors of Hyosan High School to a sprawling, ravaged urban expanse.
Lee teased major developments in the zombie characters, explaining, “In Season 2, we’ll see more formidable, evolved zombies as Seoul transforms into a dystopian wasteland governed by new survival rules.”
Cast and Characters
The return of central characters like On-jo (Park Ji-hu) and Su-hyeok (Park Solomon) ensures continuity, while the anticipated comeback of Yoon Chan-young as Cheong-san, despite his apparent demise, hints at potential surprises like flashbacks or other creative storytelling techniques. Although new cast members have yet to be announced, Lee stressed the importance of new faces in driving the evolving storyline.
Highlighting future character arcs, Lee stated, “We will delve deeper into complex character evolutions, particularly among the hybrids—zombies who retain human attributes. A key example is Choi Nam-ra, whose human-zombie hybrid nature will play a critical role in Season 2.”
