Taylor Swift Drops Extra Tracks on ‘Tortured Poets Department’ Album, Leaving Fans Delighted
Taylor Swift surprises fans with bonus tracks on her ‘Tortured Poets Department’ album, delving into heartache and introspection. Learn about her latest musical journey!
Taylor Swift gave fans quite the surprise with her latest album drop, “The Tortured Poets Department,” which hit the airwaves on Friday. This double album is packed with tracks delving into themes of heartache and what Taylor describes as one of the saddest chapters of her life. It’s her 11th studio album, featuring a total of 16 tracks, but hold onto your hats because just two hours after its official release, Taylor unveiled a second part with an additional 15 songs.
Taking to Instagram, Taylor shared her inspiration behind the album, expressing her desire to share the plethora of tortured poetry she’s penned over the past couple of years. This release follows her 2022 album, “Midnights,” by about 18 months. Plus, fans can expect a music video dropping for the album’s lead single, “Fortnight,” a collaboration with none other than Post Malone.
Taylor’s been on a roll lately, not just with her music but also with her impact on the music scene and local economies through her record-breaking Eras Tour, set to kick off again in Paris come May. Time magazine even crowned her Person of the Year in 2023, recognizing her musical achievements and her influence beyond just the music world.
Describing “Poets” as an anthology of fresh creations reflecting moments, views, and emotions from a fleeting but intense period, Taylor shared on Instagram that this chapter of her life has now closed. However, she didn’t explicitly mention which events she’s referring to, leaving fans to speculate, many guessing it might relate to her relationship with Joe Alwyn, which ended in April 2023 after six years together.
Reviews of the album were mixed, with Rolling Stone praising its ambitious and chaotic nature while NME found it somewhat lacking. Billboard noted that while “The Tortured Poets Department” might not be everyone’s cup of tea, those who connect with it will do so passionately.
Leading up to the album’s release, Taylor teased fans with clues like a daily word on Apple Music and snippets of lyrics at a makeshift library in a Los Angeles mall. And let’s not forget the timing of the release—on National Cat Lady Day, no less! Taylor first announced “Poets” back in February at the Grammys, where she nabbed her fourth Album of the Year award for “Midnights.”
