New Year’s Eve Boost for Pushpa 2

The global success story of Pushpa 2: The Rule continues as the Allu Arjun blockbuster earned ₹7.65 crore on its 27th day, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. The New Year’s Eve surge contributed to a stellar box office streak, with the Telugu-language original achieving an overall occupancy rate of 15.51% across more than 600 shows in India. In its Hindi version, Pushpa 2 drew even larger crowds, boasting a 19.15% occupancy across 3,000 shows nationwide.

Breaking Down the Numbers

The film’s multi-language appeal added to its soaring collections:
  • Telugu: ₹1.17 crore
  • Hindi: ₹6.25 crore
  • Tamil: ₹20 lakh
  • Kannada: ₹2 lakh
  • Malayalam: ₹2 lakh
The cumulative earnings put Pushpa 2 far ahead of its competition, earning nearly four times more than Varun Dhawan’s Baby John, which was released on Christmas and helmed by Jawan filmmaker Atlee.

On Track to Cross ₹1800 Crore

Released on December 5, with preview screenings on December 4, Pushpa 2 has already grossed ₹1,760 crore globally in just 25 days, according to Mythri Movie Makers. Its Hindi version alone has contributed ₹1,100 crore, a remarkable feat for a Telugu-origin film. With this, the movie has outperformed Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, directed by SS Rajamouli, and now stands just ₹300 crore shy of Dangal’s ₹2,070.3 crore global record.
With minimal competition in the upcoming weeks, analysts predict Pushpa 2 will comfortably cross the ₹1,800 crore milestone, potentially claiming the title of the highest-grossing Indian film of all time.

Behind the Scenes: Price Hikes and Controversies

The film’s success isn’t without its controversies. Box office numbers received a temporary boost due to increased ticket prices in Telangana until December 23. However, these tactics sparked criticism. Filmmaker Vikramaditya Motwane condemned the practice, labeling it monopolistic. The issue also drew attention during a Galatta Plus roundtable, where other producers echoed similar concerns about multiplex dominance.

A Legacy in the Making

As Pushpa 2 closes in on Dangal’s record, its unprecedented success highlights the growing global appeal of Indian cinema. With Allu Arjun’s magnetic performance, innovative storytelling, and an expanding fanbase, the film has set a new benchmark for Indian blockbusters.
