Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal responded to the recent global Microsoft outage, emphasizing the need for steps to minimize such risks. He stated, “Outages are momentary and not caused by deliberate intent. They can happen occasionally to any company. However, they highlight a risk that could also arise from malicious actions. Since 80% of our data is stored outside India, we are unable to mitigate these risks effectively.”
Aggarwal urged the government to recognize the risks associated with storing data globally and to implement stricter data localization norms to address these vulnerabilities.
Microsoft attributed the disruption to a third party and is working to restore services. The company stated, “We are aware of an issue affecting Windows devices due to an update from a third-party software platform. We anticipate a resolution is forthcoming.”
A Microsoft spokesperson added, “We are aware of the issue affecting a subset of customers. We acknowledge the impact and are working to store services as quickly as possible.”
