India Advocates Dialogue and Diplomacy Over War: PM Modi’s Call for Global Cooperation at BRICS Summit

He called on BRICS nations to lead global efforts in tackling challenges such as wars, economic instability, climate change, terrorism, and radicalization. Modi emphasized the importance of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence regulations, as well as the need for reforms in global institutions like the UN Security Council. He also advocated for the expansion of BRICS while maintaining consensus among its members and considering the aspirations of the Global South.
During his address at the BRICS Summit on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated India’s strong commitment to dialogue and diplomacy over war, particularly in resolving conflicts like the Russia-Ukraine crisis. He called for peaceful negotiations as the only way forward. Modi highlighted pressing global challenges, including ongoing conflicts, economic instability, climate change, and terrorism, urging BRICS nations to play a proactive role in guiding the world toward a secure and prosperous future.
The prime minister stressed the need for collective efforts to combat youth radicalization, promote global regulations for cybersecurity, and ensure the safe development of artificial intelligence. He also emphasized India’s support for expanding BRICS by welcoming new partner countries, but noted that any decisions should be made by consensus, with respect for the founding members’ views.
Modi pushed for time-bound reforms in international institutions like the UN Security Council, the WTO, and multilateral development banks. He clarified that BRICS should aim to reform global institutions, not replace them, and emphasized the need to consider the hopes and aspirations of Global South countries. Modi highlighted the unique diversity within BRICS, stating that its foundation of consensus and mutual respect is a model of positive cooperation for the world.
