Boom Supersonic’s XB-1 Prototype Completes Second Test Flight

Boom Supersonics’ XB-1 supersonic demonstrator aircraft successfully completed its second test flight on August 26, taking off from California’s Mojave Air and Space Port. The 15-minute flight reached an altitude of 10,400 feet (3,170 meters) and a speed of 277 mph (446 kph). Key tests included retracting and extending the landing gear for the first time and evaluating a new digital stability augmentation system to improve handling.
The Colorado-based company views this flight as a significant step toward achieving supersonic flight later this year. Initial results indicate we’ve successfully resolved the findings from Flight One,” said Blake Scholl, founder and CEO of Boom Supersonic.
The XB-1 is part of the development process for Boom’s planned supersonic airliner, Overture, which aims to revolutionize air travel by making it faster and more efficient. Boom Supersonic plans to conduct around 10 test flights before attempting supersonic speeds.
