Sophie Ellis-Bextor Set to Grace the Stage at the Prestigious BAFTA Film Awards

Pop sensation Sophie Ellis-Bextor is gearing up to showcase her vocal prowess at the upcoming BAFTA Awards. The British Academy recently revealed that Sophie will be performing her hit song ‘Murder on the Dancefloor’ at the ceremony, marking a significant moment in the track’s successful comeback since its initial release in December 2001.
Despite being nearly two decades old, the song has experienced a resurgence in popularity, particularly on social media. It recently gained attention in Emerald Fennell’s BAFTA-nominated film ‘Saltburn,’ adding an extra layer of excitement for fans. Thanks to the ‘Saltburn’ effect, the disco anthem has gone viral on platforms like TikTok, generating hundreds of thousands of videos and making a strong comeback on international music charts.
Sophie’s Billboard Hot 100 debut with “Murder” at No. 98 is another highlight of her recent success. Following the release of Fennell’s dark comedy on Amazon, the song continues to climb the charts, demonstrating its enduring appeal.
The BAFTA ceremony, to be hosted by David Tennant, promises to be a star-studded event. The nominations, announced earlier this month, include Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ leading with 13 nods and Yorgos Lanthimos’ ‘Poor Things’ earning 11 nominations.
‘Oppenheimer’ is vying for honors in various categories, including Best Film, Best Director (Nolan), Adapted Screenplay, Best Leading Actor (Cillian Murphy), Best Supporting Actress (Emily Blunt), and Best Supporting Actor (Robert Downey Jr.), among others. On the other hand, ‘Poor Things’ is nominated for Best Film, Outstanding British Film (for Lanthimos and team), Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Leading Actress (Emma Stone).
While Greta Gerwig’s ‘Barbie,’ a major box office success in 2023, secured nominations in only five categories, ‘Saltburn’ received five nominations, including a nod for Keoghan for Leading Man. The highly anticipated ceremony is scheduled for February 18, promising an exciting night of celebration and recognition in the world of film.
