China’s Superfast Charging Technology is Twice as Fast as Tesla’s – Fully Charges EVs in Just 6 Minutes
BYD’s new e-platform battery enables EVs to fully charge in just 6 minutes, twice as fast as Tesla’s superchargers, With a 1,000 kW peak power, it allows 250 miles of range in 5 minutes . BYD is installing 4,000 flash charging stations in China, but global availability remains uncertain.
BYD’s e-platform technology charges twice as fast as Tesla’s superchargers, allowing its cars to travel up to 250 miles (400 km) with just a 5-minute charge.
Revolutionary Battery Technology
Chinese automaker BYD has developed a new battery that enables EVs to charge as quickly as refueling a gasoline car. The e-platform battery has a 10C rating, meaning it can charge at ten times its nominal capacity, With a peak charging power of 1,000 kW, it is twice as fast as Tesla’s 500 kW superchargers.
The Han L sedan and Tang L SUV, equipped with this battery, can gain 250 miles of range in just five minutes.
How Does It Charge So Fast?
The e-platform battery achieves rapid charging by delivering **high voltage and large currents** simultaneously. However, high currents typically generate heat that can damage EV batteries. To counter this, **BYD has significantly reduced the battery’s internal resistance** and developed **new silicon carbide power chips** that can withstand higher voltages.
Charging Network & Availability
To support this breakthrough, **BYD plans to install 4,000 flash charging stations across China**. Currently, this technology is **only available in China**, and the company has not yet confirmed its international rollout.
