Anthropic has announced a new feature for its AI chatbot, Claude, empowering users to create personalized assistants. This new capability, known as “tool use” or “function calling,” allows Claude to connect to any external API. Users can create specialized assistants, such as email helpers or bots for purchasing shoes, and tailor solutions to their needs.
The “tool use” feature can analyze data to provide personalized product recommendations based on purchase history or offer quick responses to customer inquiries, such as tracking order status or providing real-time technical support, according to Anthropic.
**Beta Testing and Potential Applications**
Dianne Penn, a project lead at Anthropic, shared that the team has been beta testing the Claude tool with a few thousand customers since April. She anticipates innovative startup solutions, citing examples like Study Fetch, which used the tool to build a personalized AI tutor called Spark.E.
Experts believe AI assistants will lead technological advancements. At Google I/O, for instance, Google showcased various ways AI can handle shopping and searching tasks.
Anthropic explained that creating an assistant requires access to an API and someone with coding knowledge.
**Future Prospects**
Anthropic sees this development as beneficial for marketers, enabling the creation of highly tailored customer engagement tools. AI-driven assistants can enhance customer experiences through personalized interactions, improve customer support, drive sales with personalized recommendations, and streamline operational efficiency.
Anthropic’s new tool allows users to create various assistants to meet their needs, independently of Google and OpenAI. Meanwhile, OpenAI is working on a Her-like voice assistant that can respond in real time and observe the world, even suggesting outfit changes for job interviews.
