50% of Indian Employers Aim to Upskill Workers in Gen AI by FY25: Survey
According to a survey by Great Learning, about 50% of organizations in India plan to upskill employees in generative artificial intelligence (Gen AI) by the end of FY25. The survey, which included learning, development, and business unit heads from over 100 organizations with 10,000 to 15,000 employees, was shared with ET.
Expanding Gen AI Training
“Enterprises intend to expand Gen AI training beyond technical teams to include a broader range of roles,” said Ritesh Malhotra, enterprise head at Great Learning. Roles targeted for Gen AI upskilling include human resources, operations, marketing, and customer service.
Sectors Covered
The survey covered sectors such as IT/ITeS, consulting, manufacturing, energy, finance, healthcare, education, and retail.
Upskilling Across Three Levels
Organizations plan to upskill employees at three levels:
– **Foundational Gen AI Literacy** for non-technical teams
– **Strategic Decision-Making Skills** for senior leaders
– **Advanced Technical Training** for core practitioners
Industry Priorities
The survey revealed that technical workforce training is prioritized over non-technical roles in industries like IT/ITES and global capability centers (GCCs). Banking, financial services, and insurance (BFSI) companies are investing in Gen AI for frontline teams and C-Suite leaders, while consulting firms focus on technical team training. IT companies are enhancing their product engineering teams with advanced Gen AI training.
