With the release of iOS 18, Apple is revolutionizing the messaging experience on iPhones with several new features. Here’s how messaging will change:
1. Messages via Satellite : Exclusive to iPhone 14 and newer models, this feature enables users to send and receive iMessage and SMS messages without Wi-Fi or cellular service by leveraging satellites used for Emergency SOS. This service is free for the first two years.
2. RCS Integration : iOS 18 introduces Rich Communication Services (RCS) support, enhancing messaging with Android users. RCS offers high-resolution photos and videos, larger file sizes, audio messages, cross-platform emoji reactions, real-time typing indicators, read receipts, and improved group chat features.
3. Send Later : Users can now schedule iMessages to be sent at a later time or date. This feature, available only for iMessage conversations, allows users to schedule messages up to 14 days in advance, even if the iPhone is offline.
4. Writing Tools : iOS 18 includes systemwide writing tools that enhance the Messages app. Users can proofread text for spelling and grammar, rewrite messages with different tones, or summarize content.
5. Notification Summaries : The update provides a summary of multiple notifications from the Messages app, helping users catch up on important messages at a glance. This feature works for both individual and group chats and displays summaries on the Lock Screen.
