IIT Kanpur Introduces Anālakṣhya Stealth Tech to Render Objects Invisible to Radar

IIT Kanpur has unveiled a pioneering stealth technology known as the Anālakṣhya Metamaterial Surface Cloaking System (MSCS), a major advancement in radar invisibility. This innovative system, developed by a team of researchers and students, is designed to make objects nearly undetectable by radar, offering significant potential for defense and national security.

The Anālakṣhya MSCS uses a textile-based broadband metamaterial microwave absorber, which can absorb radar waves over a wide frequency range. This capability renders Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imaging ineffective, offering enhanced protection against radar-guided missiles and providing greater stealth for modern military operations.

A significant achievement in India’s defense innovation, the system is a testament to the country’s growing self-reliance, with over 90% of its materials sourced domestically. Following rigorous testing from 2019 to 2024, the technology has been proven effective in various real-world conditions. It has now been licensed to Meta Tattva Systems Pvt. Ltd. for production, moving closer to deployment by the Indian Armed Forces.

Stealth technology is essential in contemporary warfare, where radar surveillance is a critical component. By absorbing radar waves, Anālakṣhya MSCS reduces the detection range of military assets, thus enhancing their survivability and strategic advantage.

The launch event was attended by prominent defense officials, including Air Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, Air Marshal Rajesh Kumar, and Lt. Gen. Cherish Mathson, who praised the innovation and the collaboration between academia, industry, and the armed forces. This breakthrough not only bolsters India’s defense capabilities but also represents a significant leap in global stealth technology.
