India is emerging as a global manufacturing hub, a fact even China has acknowledged. China’s official newspaper, Global Times, recently shared a list of the world’s top 10 countries in manufacturing output, with India ranking fifth.
In a post on social media platform ‘X’, Global Times highlighted India’s impressive manufacturing value added of $456 billion. The list, based on World Bank data, places China at the top with $4659 billion, followed by the United States ($2497 billion), Germany ($845 billion), Japan ($818 billion), and India ($456 billion).
The Global Times, known for its critical stance towards India, has noticeably softened its tone. The publication now recognizes India as an emerging power. This shift follows tensions between the Indian and Chinese armies in Galwan and India’s firm stance on China, leading to a more conciliatory approach from China.
In January 2024, Global Times praised India and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, noting India’s rapid growth and achievements over the past four years. The article emphasized India’s strong economic growth, improvements in urban governance, and evolving international relations, particularly with China.
