Elon Musk has agreed to a televised showdown with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, responding to the challenge with a simple “I accept.” This isn’t Musk’s first fight challenge; he previously proposed a match with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, which didn’t materialize.
The animosity between Musk and Maduro extends beyond tech rivalry, fueled by turmoil in Caracas. Maduro’s recent controversial election win has heightened tensions. If the fight occurs, it will pit Musk, the billionaire tech mogul, against Maduro, the socialist leader of an economically struggling nation.
Maduro accused Musk of cyber-attacks on Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE), which declared Maduro the winner without solid data, igniting further disputes. In response to Musk’s online provocations, Maduro challenged him openly, calling Musk the “famous Elon Musk” and expressing readiness to fight.
Musk, known for his boldness, took to social network X to accept the challenge, even mocking Zuckerberg in the process. Musk proposed a high-stakes wager: if he wins, Maduro resigns as president; if Maduro wins, Musk offers him a free ride to Mars.
Musk has consistently criticized Maduro, labeling him a “dictator” and condemning the election as a “travesty.” He highlighted a 2020 DEA announcement on criminal charges against Maduro, including a $15 million reward for information leading to his arrest.
Maduro, in turn, accused Musk of plotting an invasion, claiming, “He wants to come here with his guns and an army to invade Venezuela.” Musk retorted with a sarcastic comparison: “An ass knows more than Maduro,” later apologizing to the animal kingdom for the insult.
